Sony Masterworks is thrilled to announce the release of The Voice of Bach, the RCA Red Seal debut from Canadian counter tenor, Daniel Taylor. This welcome recording showcases some of the most famous and best-loved examples of J.S. Bach's superlative writing for the human voice and features Taylor in striking versions of Bach's oratorio arias and cantatas including 'Es ist vollbracht' from St. John's Passion, 'Erbarme Dich' from the St. Matthew's Passion and 'Christ lag in Todesbanden' from Cantata BWV 4. Soprano Agnes Zigovics joins Taylor in duets 'Wir eilen mit Schwachen' from 'Jesu, der du meine Seele' BWV 78 and 'Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn' from Cantata BWV 23. Accompanying Daniel Taylor in the choruses and symphonic interludes on this CD is the Theatre of Early Music, a Canadian-based period-instrument ensemble and professional choir of which Taylor is founder and artistic director. Daniel Taylor works with an ever-widening circle of the world's leading early and contemporary music experts including Ton Koopman, Paul McCreesh, Sir Jonathan Miller, Trevor Pinnock and Helmut Rilling. On 15th January 2009 he will be appearing at Birmingham Town Hall as Hamor in Nicholas McGegan's production of Handel's Jephta. Gramophone recently noted of Daniel Taylor's musicianship: "eloquently thought through and beautifully sung with the perfect sense of dramatic character:.. sung with peerless vocal beauty and remarkably sensitive ornaments".
